Cleveland Browns new coach Rob Chudzinski - 'I wouldn't miss this for the world'

BEREA, Ohio -?Browns new head coach Rob Chudzinski, a Toledo native and life-long Browns fan, said Friday morning that the Browns head coaching job is one he's long dreamed about.

"I wouldn't miss this for the world,'' he said about the opportunity to become the Browns' 14th full-time head coach.

?

Chudzinski said "the call came on Tuesday and I knew I was going to get this job.''

?

Here are more quick hits from Chudzinski's press conference:

?

* Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said he talked to plenty of people in the NFL about "Chud" and they all "have no doubt he can control the room and lead the team.''

?

* Chud's contract is four years, a little over $3 million a year, a source said.

?

* Haslam said he and CEO Joe Banner flew to Charlotte, N.C. to have dinner with Chudzinski on Thursday and bring him back as their head coach.

?

* Chud wouldn't comment specifically on whether or not he's bringing Norv Turner as OC, but Banner alluded to Chud's "ability to attract those people'' which was important to them.

?

* They wouldn't comment on the top personnel man but said Chud will be involved in hiring him. Chud said he'll have shared responsibility on 53-man roster.

?

* Chud said he'll either call plays or let the new OC do it if he's comfortable with him.

?

* He said his defense could be a hybrid and it could go either way, 3-4 or 4-3.

?

* He wouldn't comment specifically about quarterback Brandon Weeden or any other players.

?

* He described his offensive and defensive philosophies as "attacking.'' He said he'll run a vertical deep passing game and a balanced offense.

* Chud said when he left here as OC in 2008, he was "looking across the field, knowing I'd be back some how, some way.''
?

* Haslam: "If you talk to people in the business, he is regarded as one of the?
brightest, if not the brightest, minds in the business. He is tremendously?
innovative."

?

* Haslam: "We think we have great young talent on offense. We thought it was?
exceptionally important to bring in an individual who can take advantage of,?
develop -- everywhere Rob has been the quarterback has gotten dramatically?
better -- develop that talent so that we can, one, put the kind of points on the?
board that will win games? and, two, candidly be fun to watch."

?

* Chud: "I want to take the opportunity to thank the Browns for allowing me to?
fulfill a dream. And not just a dream of becoming an? NFL head coach, but to the?
Cleveland Browns.? It means a lot to me coming from this area."

?

* Chud: "I am excited about this opportunity. I'm excited about the opportunity to?bring back what I grew up in and the feeling this city, this region, this area?
has in the Cleveland Browns. I was the kid playing in the? backyard pretending I?was Ozzie Newsome or Brian Sipe."

?

* Chud: "The tradition of this franchise is such?that the people here want to?
win and I'm here and I would not miss the opportunity for the world the?
opportunity to come back and bring back a winner."

?

* Chud: "I put a lot of pressure on myself. This opportunity is an opportunity of
a lifetime for me."

* Banner: "He has the criteria we've seen? in coaches that are really successful. And then frankly, you're just making your best judgement.

* You never know but we think we identified the qualities we were looking for and
confident Rob has those and we've come up with a candidate we're very very
confident in."

* Chud: "Every year I've gotten better as a coach ... I think overall as time has gone on, I've had the exepriences to see and been around the people to see what it takes to be a great head coach and hopefully I put all those things together."

* Chud: "I have a plan in place. The people here, we're going to get a great
staff. The players that are here, it's a young group. This is going to be about
the process. Whereas alot of times everyone is focused on the end result, the
process is the important thing and I view the people around here, Joe and Jimmy, that process is going to be the right process to get us where we want to be."

* Haslam: "Contrary to what you read, we did not have one person that was the
favorite. We were very open minded to who that person might be. We knew
specifically what we were looking for and I didn't have any predetermined idea
if it was going to take a week or a month."

"It was a great process, tiring, but very educational for us."

* Haslam: "Rob was very decisive. This is how I'm going to do things. I'm an
offensive guy, but here's my role on defense. Here's my role on special teams.
Here are the type of people I would bring in as coordinators, here are the type
of coaches. It was just very definitive."

* Haslam: "Rob was always on our radar screen. Rob has been identified as a top, bright young guy for a long time. "

* Chud: "What we have to focus on the process of working and building a culture, working and building a team and working and building our identity to get the point where we're going to compete and have success against those teams [in the division.]

* Banner: "What is similar [to hiring Andy Reid in Philadelphia] is hiring somebody who is an outsanding leader, who's going to put together a program and who is going to hire a great staff and effectively manage it. That's what I thought we needed?the last time we did this and that was what I was looking for this time."

* Banner: "It was through the variety of anecdotal stories and the specifics of
his plan that convinced us he was the type of leader that could run the whole
program, understood what he was looking for in a staff, could find those people.
He's highly respected in the league. It's going to make a big difference in the
kind of quality of staff he is going to be able to attract.
