~the old Strawbridge Antiques Store~
Main Street (Highway 17 South)
Pollocksville, North Carolina
~~~~~
The Strawbridge Antiques store is a wonderful building on Main Street in Pollocksville - which is located in Jones County (named after the Revolutionary War leader, Willie Jones, who later became North Carolina's chief opponent of ratification of the US Constitution).
Strawbridge Antiques was owned by Mrs. Mildred Aldell Sparrow Strawbridge (1920-2005) of Pollocksville and New Bern, North Carolina.?? I didn't notice a For Sale sign, and if I had to guess, the Strawbridge Antiques building and the house next door still belong to the Strawbridge family.? At least I hope so - and perhaps someone in the family will want to open up the place again - wash the windows, repaint the sign on the side of the building, sweep the porch - show the place a little love.
I wish I knew more about the place.
~front window, the old Strawbridge Antiques building~
I did look up M & W SIGNS on the web - and it seems that they do have a place in Pollocksville at another location along Highway 17 (8400 Highway 17, Pollocksville, 28573) and the phone number is the same as is on the window (perhaps I should call them and ask about this place?).? Inside there are some signs - so perhaps they used it at some point, or still do.? If anyone stops by here and knows something about the history of this place - please leave a comment and share.? This building, as well as the home next to it with the wonderful front porch seem like places filled with stories.
